What if you couldn't die? Sounds nice, right? But what if you were the only one? Everyone has to deal with death. Parents and grandparents die, but what if you have to watch every one of your lovers die. Your children. Your friends. Again and again and again for the rest of eternity? Would it still be so nice?

At first, his overprivileged life seemed perfect. He was a child of the Gods according to his parents, favored by his father and loved by his mother but time would show that what was once seen as a gift from the Gods would be anything but. The woman came easy and with no mortality to breathe down his back, the money came fast. His seeming immortality lay in his ability to heal and heal quickly. Aging, too, had slowed down to a snail's pace due to the constant and perfect regeneration of cells, a genetic mutation that had been seen before in insects but unknown to humans. There was, of course, small print. Take a bullet, fall from a height, but a simple beheading or complete destruction of the brain was enough to end it for good. At first, it seemed like a blessing. Within a decade, it was clear it was a curse.

His mother was the first to go when he was still young and virile. The lovers came next, though their aging had already seen them sloughed off for a more appropriate match. Mattias, though, made a fatal mistake: He fell in love. For 40 years, he played the part of ordinary mortal. Three children came in quick succession and for 5 years, life seemed perfect. The cursed and the normal were never made to fall in love, though and unbeknownst to Mattias, his children were already damned. Laced with the fragile cells of their mother and overbearing strength of their father, the children died one by one, savagely ripped apart from within. 30 years later, when his wife died, Mattias went into hiding.

With a body that filtered out toxins before they could take effect, Mattias was unable to take refuge within drugs or alcohol. Instead, he was forced to sit and wait, forced to heal slowly for once. Mattias would eventually learn that this was to become a pattern. Heartbreak would heal, a new person would come into his life and his world would shatter apart once more. Over time, the space between lovers would become longer and longer until, full of scar tissue, he found his heart cold.

However, heartbreak and loneliness weren't the only things Mattias had to deal with. The fear of the unknown, the paranormal and the magical popped up from time to time, and his abilities meant that any major injury could expose him. Because of this, combined with his decelerated aging, Mattias could never stay in one spot for more than twenty years at a time. Instead, he was destined to spend his life hopping from place to place. Ironically, Mattias found that sticking out was the best way to blend in. With exorbitant amounts of money, he crafted himself as a playboy, one that burned bright but disappeared mysteriously. Oh, there was speculation, of course. Drug overdoses, tragic car accidents...they all covered him and while he always had to lay low for a decade or two following his disappearance, he always returned eventually to a newer, hungrier generation.

Upsilon and Omicron were supposed to be blips on the map, just another set of groups that blamed world problems on something no one could explain. Over time, however, Mattias learned that the organizations were in fact legitimate. Suddenly, he was no longer alone. Could it be possible that there were others like him out there? Too used to surviving to truly out himself, Mattias monitored the two groups from a distance and eventually decided to sell his services to Upsilon. It wasn't that he was particularly evil or even particularly anti-government, but he had always been one to root for the underdog and wasn't one man's terrorist another's freedom fighter? Besides, if only Omicron had come out sooner, perhaps he could have saved himself some grief, found a group of like individuals years before. He blamed Omicron for everything he couldn't control, and within months he was embracing Upsilon whole-heartedly. Internally within the group, Mattias used his money and influence to funnel resources to the group while providing other background support. Externally, he has continued to build his reputation as a savvy businessperson, a successful entrepreneur that rubs elbows with the movers and shakers of D.C. all without ever exposing himself as a player in the game.

For the first 13 years of his life, Mattias appeared perfectly normal. Puberty, however, did something to him, woke up a dormant gene that would change his life. Suddenly, small scrapes and bruises healed instantly, his body seemed to stop aging. To date, Mattias has found that he is immune to most toxins and diseases due to his liver's ability to filter at a higher rate than most. Over time, he has lost half a dozen body parts, from toes to an arm but has found that though these injuries can cause coma, he is able to recover from them eventually.

strengths. virtually impossible to kill, save for by decapitation and destruction of the brain. appears to age at an extremely decelerated rate due to lack of senescence and stem cell regeneration. heals at an extremely accelerated rate due to morphallaxis. immune to most levels of toxins and diseases.

weaknesses. high level of toxins. longer recovery time from limb loss, or extreme trauma to the body. normal human strength and stamina, unless healing which can incapacitate to the level of coma. intoxication by drugs or alcohol is nearly impossible. unable to heal others. blood transfusions or donations to others can be fatal to receiver. puberty is fatal to offspring. decapitation or destruction of the brain can be fatal.

hipkiss. The Boss Lady. Mattias isn't sure if he is terrified of her or completely in awe of her, but either way, he has been flirting with her from day one. He admires her ability to lead, but his own strong personality can clash with hers, making things at the 'office' interesting to say the least.

nins. The Forbidden. She's the new kid on the block for the enemy, but that hasn't stopped Mattias from purposely bumping into her in the real world and putting on his most charming face. He has no idea if she knows what he really is, but the truth is the thrill of pursuing something so off-limits have made the risk worth it.

houdini. The Side-Kick. Mattias loves Bobby's lust for life, something he lost long ago. These two, however, aren't exactly Sherlock and Watson. For the most part, Mattias uses Bobby simply for his own selfish purposes without feeling any obvious obligations of loyalty to the boy.

cpalermo. The Kelso. They love to hate each other. Chuck often annoys the hell out of Mattias, but he can't deny the kid has talent. More often than not, Mattias sends Chuck on wild goose chases during missions, occasionally to the point of danger. Despite the annoyance and grief he gives him, though, Mattias has yet to let Chuck down in the field.

harlottec. The Con. Charlotte managed to take the usually vigilant Mattias for a pretty penny years ago, but in the end it has been Mattias that has gotten the last laugh. Now an agent for Upsilon, Mattias is slow to let Charlotte forget just how much she owes him and uses it to his full advantage.
